They are designated as the National Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE), and the state of Florida is one of the top states in terms of the number of college and universities that offer these programs.

Online Cyber Security Programs in Florida

A good portion of institutions have cyber security programs that students can pursue online, providing maximum flexibility while still maintaining their professional career. The Florida Institute of Technology has numerous options for online degrees in this line of work, all available online and at the Master's degree level.

The Master of Science in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity will give students the ability to analyze vulnerabilities within a network, discover encryption methods, and implement data science topics into the field. The 33-credit hour program has a complete focus on securing an organization's network and sensitive information, and graduates have gone on to pursue careers as a forensics investigator, threat intelligence analyst, and a chief information security officer.

The other two programs focus on the IT and business aspects of an organization with part of the curriculum focused on cyber research and defense.

The Master of Science in Information Technology has a specialization within Cybersecurity where the specific electives will be taken: Security in the Enterprise, Host-Based Security, and Secure Networks and Communication.

The Master of Business Administration also has a Cybersecurity concentration that provides the link between how these security efforts can boost an enterprise and creating the policy and regulations that a company will follow in order to eliminate threats. Regardless of program chosen, all of these options can be fully completed online.

Master's in Cyber Security Degrees in Florida

There are numerous opportunities to pursue a Master's degree in the field of cyber security across the state of Florida. Most programs fall under the "Master of Science" category and will directly be focused on cyber security itself, or specific coursework will be within the curriculum of information security, information technology, digital forensics, or computer science.

The University of Central Florida’s Online MS in Digital Forensics

The University of Central Florida has an online program, the Master of Science in Digital Forensics, through the College of Engineering and Computer Science that has a specific focus on the investigation process of cyber crime.

30 credit hours are needed to complete the program with an option to choose a thesis or two additional electives. Categories to choose courses from include computing, criminal justice and electronic discovery, and forensic science and legal studies. While the program can be completed fully online, not all elective options will be available.

Students selecting the thesis option will have an on-campus requirement to defend their project. At least 50 percent of a student’s curriculum must contain courses at the 6000-level. Going into the program, students must have proper prerequisites from prior undergraduate work or related work experience established.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 5,600 are employed in the sector. Salary sits a bit lower than the US median at $91,950 on average, with the extreme averages sitting between $52,490 and $139,000 annually.

Two of the biggest cyber security organizations in the state are Harris and Citrix.
